The team at Allied Pickfords in Western Australia have responded to a callout from a Western Australian MP who has been collecting donations of formal wear to help school students in the Pilbara and Kimberley region who do not have appropriate clothing for their school balls.
Labor Member for Mining and Pastoral, Stephen Dawson said it was unfortunate some students had to miss out on their school balls because they either could not afford or did not have access to formal attire.
Mr Dawson has received an “overwhelming” response from colleagues, family, friends and everyday Australians, who have generously donated dresses, suits, ties, unworn shoes, and make-up.
Upon hearing of this unfortunate experience, the team at Allied Pickfords, were only too happy to offer a helping hand to a worthy cause.
Last week, Allied Pickfords transported the items over 1800km, free of charge from Perth to Hedland to support the cause.
Mr Dawson said the incentive was a response to a conversation earlier in the year with a staff member from Kununurra District High School, who raised concerns some students did not have formal wear.
He said the donated items would provide Year 12 students with the same opportunity as students in other schools to celebrate and enjoy their school ball.
If anyone is able to support the cause, clothing can be dropped off at Mr Dawson’s electorate office in South Hedland Shopping Centre, or contact the office on 9172 2648.
Feel free to get in touch if you would like to be involved in this worthy cause.
